Quick Answer

The calculator estimates the study hours needed to move between two CEFR levels and divides that by your weekly study time.

How to Calculate

  1. Choose your current level and target level.
  2. Enter how many lessons you take each week.
  3. Enter the average lesson length and any self-study time.
  4. Click Calculate to see the rough timeline.

Formula

Weekly study hours = lessons per week x minutes per lesson / 60 + self-study hours

Hours needed = target cumulative hours - current cumulative hours

Weeks needed = hours needed / weekly study hours

Worked Examples

Example 1: Moving from A1 to B1 with 5 study hours per week takes about 60 weeks in this model.

Example 2: Moving from B1 to B2 with 6 study hours per week takes about 33 weeks.

Example 3: If you add more self-study hours, the number of weeks drops immediately.
