The Institute of Medicine (IOM) provides evidence-based recommendations for pregnancy weight gain based on pre-pregnancy BMI.

Weight Gain Pattern
- First Trimester: 1-2 kg total (some may lose weight due to nausea)
- Second Trimester: ~0.4 kg per week
- Third Trimester: ~0.4 kg per week
