What is Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)?

Mean Arterial Pressure is the average blood pressure in the arteries during a single cardiac cycle. It is a more reliable indicator of organ perfusion than systolic blood pressure alone because it reflects the pressure that drives blood to the organs throughout the entire heartbeat cycle.

MAP Formula

MAP = Diastolic BP + (1/3 ร— Pulse Pressure)
Pulse Pressure = Systolic BP โˆ’ Diastolic BP

Equivalently: MAP = (Systolic + 2 ร— Diastolic) รท 3

MAP Reference Values

MAP Range (mmHg)Interpretation
< 60Critically low โ€” inadequate organ perfusion
70โ€“100Normal โ€” adequate perfusion pressure
101โ€“110Mildly elevated
> 110High โ€” associated with organ damage risk
Note: A MAP of at least 60 mmHg is generally required to ensure adequate perfusion to the brain, heart, and kidneys. This calculator is for educational use. Always consult a medical professional for interpretation.
