Quick Answer

Cross-stitch size is the stitch count divided by the fabric count, with any strand count adjustment you need for your stitching setup. Then add margins for framing or finishing.

How to Use It

  1. Enter the design width and height in stitches.
  2. Set the fabric count and whether it is counted per inch or per centimeter.
  3. Choose how many strands you stitch with.
  4. Add the border you want around the design.

Formula

Finished size = stitches x strands per stitch / fabric count

Fabric size = finished size + 2 x border

Worked Examples

Example 1: 120 x 160 stitches on 14-count fabric with 1 strand is about 8.57 x 11.43 inches.

Example 2: The same design on 28-count fabric with 2 strands is also about 8.57 x 11.43 inches.

Example 3: Add a 3-inch border on each side to plan fabric about 14.57 x 17.43 inches.
