The Three Body Types (Somatotypes)
Developed by psychologist William Sheldon in the 1940s, somatotypes classify body types based on skeletal frame and body composition.
1. Ectomorph
Characteristics: Thin, lean, difficulty gaining weight
- Fast metabolism
- Narrow shoulders and hips
- Long limbs
- Low body fat
2. Mesomorph
Characteristics: Athletic, muscular, gains muscle easily
- Medium metabolism
- Broad shoulders, narrow waist
- Strong build
- Responds well to exercise
3. Endomorph
Characteristics: Higher body fat, rounder shape, gains weight easily
- Slower metabolism
- Wide hips and shoulders
- Shorter limbs
- Stores fat easily
